Greetings,
My name is Erika Mead and I’m reaching out for help to assist my best friend, Rachael Goodrich, so that she may be able to accompany her 28 year old daughter who is undergoing a 19 hours long, high risk brain surgery to remove tumors located at the base of her skull and spinal cord.
Her daughter was given 14% or less odds of living through the surgery, and yet, if she does survive she’ll face a slew of other complications she may or may not survive: infection is always a problem with surgery, illness or staff infection from the hospital, and any repercussions from the surgery unfortunately are not in her favor. Such as, there’s a 86% chance she could be paralyzed from her neck down, loss of movement in her hands, constant migraines for the remainder of her life, complete blindness, permanent loss of speech, brain damage, and the list goes on. But if all goes well, it may allow her daughter a little more time in this world with her parents to go experience a few things she’s always dreamed of seeing and doing before she departs. No matter the outcome of her surviving there will be repercussions that will have a permanent effect on her daughter’s quality of living. What my goal is, with your help in contributions, is to give Rachael and her daughter all the time together they can get and not worry about where they are going to stay during the surgery and the 3 weeks of follow up appointments that will follow.
I have already found a place that is close to the hospital, private and clean that will fit their needs. I have already contributed $700 and rental car for Rachael but I need $1500 more to meet my goal. You donations will go directly towards the financial burden of the living expenses it will cost for Rachael to be at the hospital with her daughter and a place nearby where her daughter and Rachael can stay down near the University of San Francisco where the surgeries are scheduled to take place so as they won’t have to drive 2 ½ hours one way every other day from the hospital and Auburn to meet the follow up appointments, MRI’s and rehabilitation sessions. The insurance company will only cover Rachael’s daughter’s stay in the hospital for the days of her surgery and part of her recovery, which is not enough. As grateful as they are to have doctors willing to do the procedure and most of the expenses pay for her daughter it falls short and was deemed pivotal. The family is already looking at medical expenses that will cost them greatly that the insurance doesn’t cover and are struggling to meet those needs. This would alleviate one of the biggest burdens they face.
