Hi everyone,
I am asking for your help for my daughter Brooklyn—a vibrant, loving, and resilient little girl who is autistic and lives with Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD. She attends occupational, physical, and speech therapy every week to help her navigate the world, but her journey comes with challenges that most people don’t see.
Brooklyn loves the outdoors. She lights up when she’s outside, exploring nature or just spending time with her siblings. But despite how much she enjoys it, her experiences are limited. Public spaces can be overwhelming—loud noises, crowds, and unfamiliar environments often lead to sensory overload. She also gets physically tired quickly due to being a tiptoe walker, which puts constant strain on her body.
In addition to that, Brooklyn has limited street awareness and tends to run off when she’s excited, especially in new or stimulating environments. This makes outings unpredictable and, at times, unsafe. It’s incredibly hard to fully enjoy time outside as a family when there’s a constant fear of her getting hurt or overwhelmed.
That’s why we’re raising funds for a specialized safety device. This would give Brooklyn a secure, calming space to retreat to when she’s overstimulated or exhausted. It would also allow us to safely include her in more activities, so she doesn’t have to miss out on outdoor time with her siblings.
Unfortunately, our insurance won’t cover this item since it’s not considered “medical equipment,” even though for a child like Brooklyn, it truly is. That’s why I’m turning to our community for help—because this device would make a huge difference in her daily life.
I know there are so many serious things happening in the world right now, and many families are going through their own struggles—so asking for financial help is something I don’t take lightly. I’m not saying Brooklyn’s challenges aren’t serious, because they absolutely are. Her safety and ability to be included in everyday life matters deeply and we simply can’t afford this on our own right now.
We’re just trying to get Brooklyn the support she needs sooner rather than later—so she can safely enjoy the outdoors and experience more.
Any donation, no matter the size, means the world to us and if you’re not able to give, even just sharing this would help more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read Brooklyn’s story, and for being a part of her journey.
