Hi! I am Ysabella Lentz. I have been experiencing undiagnosed progressive vision loss for 3 years, impairing my everyday life, especially with university. This March, I was diagnosed with Keratoconus, a degenerative condition where the cornea thins and bulges to form a cone shape, leading to blurred vision, light sensitivity, and doubled/distorted vision.
This condition has compromised my vision in my left eye and is slowly progressing in my right eye. Due to the advancement in the left eye, a Corneal Cross-linking procedure is required to slow the progression. This procedure will be followed by scleral contact lenses in both eyes to improve my vision.
I am a full-time college student, studying psychology and pursuing my goal to become a Physician Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh. This procedure will not only improve daily/basic tasks such as reading labels and seeing faces clearly, but it will also allow me to drive and reduce my daily headaches! Academically, I need accommodations due to my vision. I have a hard time reading off of projectors and paper, challenges with completing labs, and studying. This surgery will benefit both daily things we take for granted and my education.
The procedure is not covered by insurance and will require a leave from work for recovery. The estimate for the procedure is $4,500.
Any donation would mean the world to me. Your prayers, positive thoughts, and shares are appreciated.
