Hi . My name is Lorie and I am fundraising to help my friend Lynn to live her best life and walk again.
After more than 3 years of pain and grueling treatments on her left leg, Lynn was left with no choice but amputation. Even after months of different and increasingly more desperate medical treatments her veins had shut down blood flow it her lower leg. This resulted in the final emergency diagnosis right after Christmas that removal of the foot and part of her leg was necessary. Unfortunately, by the time surgery happened the infection had spread and resulted in amputation above her knee.
This increased amputation results in her needing a more advanced prosthetic leg. She needs two joints in her new leg to mimic what she lost to the surgeon’s knife. Her still active lifestyle calls for climbing stairs, walking fair distances and general early senior activities.
Unfortunately, in Canada, not a lot is covered by our government insurance policies. They actively discourage prescription of the “newest” technologies in prosthetics and prefer to hand out prosthetics that still require hand manipulation when the need to bend or sit is required because of their budgets. The newer technologies that are readily available are much more expensive. Lynn’s new leg with dual joints in new automated technology will cost $70000. Certainly out of reach even though she is steadily employed in a sales clerk job.
Please help if you are able. She has always been self reliant and active. This has slowed her down but she’s not out and hoping for a hand up… to walk.
