My name is Adam JacksonBey and I’m asking for help because I had the unfortunate luck to need two surgeries in a relatively short span of time, a tooth extraction and hernia surgery.
About 8-9 months ago, I noticed a bulge in my stomach. I went to express care, worried that cancer had returned. Luckily, it was just an epigastric hernia, which is mostly something that someone can live with as long as there isn’t any pain or discomfort. It wasn’t life-threatening, and I’d be fine for the most part.
About a month and a half ago, when I was moving around some boxes at work, I started to feel a pain in my stomach and noticed a slight discoloration. Unluckily, these were signifiers that my hernia had gotten worse and it is now time for surgery. After an ultrasound, I found that I have an umbilical hernia along with the epigastric hernia that is starting to cause pain and discomfort when I’m standing or sitting, making it impossible for me to work until that’s fixed. The umbilical hernia does not seem to be a problem; it is a birth defect and not harmful, but close enough to the epigastric hernia that it’s best if they are both fixed at the same time.
Secondarily, I’ve been fighting an ongoing battle with tooth pain since February (Presidents’ Day, to be exact). It took 2 months to get an initial exam, another month for my cleaning, and now I am going in next month on July 9th to get my cavities filled.
During the initial exam, the dentist said I needed one, possibly two molars removed, but he’ll know more once he starts filling the cavities.
These funds that I’m raising will go toward the cost of the tooth extraction(s), the hernia surgeries, and possibly getting a hotel room for a few nights post-hernia surgery, if possible. (I have been sleeping on various couches since late December as I was unable to find a place after having to move late last year.)
I have looked into different discounts, insurances, and programs to help me pay some of this and/or get it discounted, but as you can imagine, a lot of that is in a state of flux right now.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, and sharing would be amazing as well.
