Hello! My name is Mandy. I’ve never done this before, but I’m feeling a bit desperate and thought it might be alright to reach out for help.
I’m about to turn 24 and I’m dealing with some very significant and chronic brain fog, fatigue, and neuropsychological and cognitive symptoms that may stem from undiagnosed disorders and/or long-mono (or COVID). My memory and attention abilities have worsened, and I lack mental clarity on a daily basis.
I suspect what I’m going through is neurological and may have been exacerbated by my contraction of Epstein-Barr Virus (mono) last year. I am trying to investigate this issue as it’s becoming unbearable and leading me to be more depressed. There is a comprehensive neuropsychological examination center near me that has been highly recommended, and after insurance, the exam is projected to be ~$1015. This exam will provide diagnostic testing for neurological disorders (https://www.thomsonmemory.com/adult-services). I am also seeking help from my primary care provider who may do additional testing for EBV levels, neuroinflammation, and even hormonal assessments or an MRI.
I’m at the beginning of exploring these issues with professionals, but I know that neuropsychological testing is something that will be very insightful and productive for me regardless. I have a history of depression and mood disorder, but I suspect I have other neuropsychological conditions (anxiety, ADHD) that will affect me as long as I go without examination.
I believe it will be life-changing to get these results as I’ll be able to move forward in deciphering what’s causing my symptoms and moving forward with treatment.
I secured a spot for an examination at the end of July, which I can cancel up to 72 hours before the scheduled time. I am working and living paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford the exam at the moment. I hope to get my parents’ support with this treatment as well.
Thank you SO much for reading and considering, and donating if it makes sense for you.
