Hi, I’m Marie.
I developed lipedema, like many women around the world, in my teens. It has increased year by year.
I’m losing mobility in my knees, ankles, and hips as it progresses.
I have hopes of it being put into remission due to a life-changing surgery, but it is not being covered by my insurance.
I hope to live a long, active life, but this disease is slowly taking my hopes for the active part of that life. Joint inflammation and deterioration turn to joint replacement if this disease has its way.
The surgery I need consists of breaking up scarring that lays beneath my skin on my limbs, abdomen, and glutes.
Once the scar tissue is removed, they will suction it out with tools used for aesthetic forms of liposuction.
This is a new surgery and the only form of hope for remission of this disease.
The surgeon needs three separate surgeries to complete my needs. Each surgery ranges from $30,000-$35,000. This will cover the plastic surgeon, the hospitalization, and the anesthesia.
My insurance recognizes this as a medical need but will be denying coverage because the doctor is not in-network.
Thank you for making it this far into my message, and please pass my story on to those whom you feel to.
