Hey, I’m Madeline. I’m a trans woman fundraising for facial feminization surgery. I recently received an appointment that’s six months earlier than my scheduled appointment, and as a result, I haven’t been able to adequately save up funds for medical expenses and life expenses from having to take a bunch of time off work! This is the final piece of my transition, something that I’ve been pursuing for many years, and will bring me a lot of peace.
I’m a gender-affirming electrologist doing medically necessary hair removal to help trans people in their transition journeys, and now it’s my turn to ask for help! I’ve been trying to get FFS (Facial Feminization Surgery) for just over 3 years at this point, and it’s the final piece of my transition journey.
Why is this so important to me? Good question. Testosterone can cause some subtle bone changes to the face, and these aren’t affected by hormone replacement therapy. The only option to truly address these areas is the help of a qualified plastic surgeon. I won’t go further into the details because it gets a bit gory, but there are plenty of videos on YouTube if you’re curious about what specific procedures are included in the FFS umbrella. For me, this will give me a level of peace in my body that’s hard to convey, but suffice it to say that I’ve spent years of my life working hard to make this moment finally arrive.
I’m not the type to typically ask for financial assistance, and I take a lot of pride in having funded my other surgeries myself (I’m stubborn that way), but given the political climate around trans healthcare, I’ve decided to go outside of my comfort zone and ask for assistance. I fear if I wait any longer, the healthcare I’ve spent so long trying to get will no longer be covered by insurance, which would put costs far, far out of reach for someone like me.
Anything contributed will mean the world to me!
