Help My Mom Heal After Her Heart Transplant
Hi, my name is Nina, and I’m proud to be the eldest—and admittedly the favorite (lol)—child of my amazing mother, Elizabeth. My mom is the heart of our family. She’s a deeply loving, compassionate, and supportive woman who has always put her children first. She raised several of us, with the youngest still in high school, while working over 30 years as an assembly line worker with Ford Motor Company.
A Health Battle No Family Is Ever Prepared For
In 2021, my mom was diagnosed with heart failure, and since then, her condition has steadily worsened. What began as occasional hospital visits turned into constant, critical emergencies. In November 2024, she suffered a major stroke, which required her to regain many of her cognitive abilities. Since then, she has been on and off life support almost monthly, battling through:
* Multiple strokes
* Cardiac shock episodes
* Long hospital stays
* Relearning how to walk after prolonged intubation
* Being diagnosed with end-stage heart failure in February 2025
In June, she was placed on indefinite life support with an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) to keep her heart functioning while waiting for a donor.
Tomorrow Is the Day: Transplant Surgery
On June 19th, my mother will undergo a life-saving heart transplant.
Her recovery will require at least 4 weeks in the hospital and 3 months of intensive care at home to ensure her new heart is accepted and functioning well. I will be moving in with her full-time to help support her recovery.
Why We’re Asking for Help
I’m fundraising to help with the basic costs that will allow my mom to recover safely and comfortably at home:
* Utilities- keeping her home cool, safe, and comfortable
* Essential home repairs – including her furnace, AC, and any safety improvements
* Car repairs – for dependable transportation to her many follow-up appointments
* Groceries and recovery supplies- to support her health and healing
After everything she’s fought through, she deserves to come home to a space that supports her recovery—not one that adds stress or risk.
Every Gift Matters
No donation is too small. If you aren’t able to give right now, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your friends and loved ones.
Your support is giving my mom the stability and peace she needs to recover after one of the biggest challenges of her life.
Thank you for showing up for us during this critical time.
With gratitude,
Nina
