Help a Future Nurse Heal – Support Her Journey to a Prosthetic Hand
From Saving Lives to Rebuilding Her Own
Hi, my name is Reena Cheruiyot. I’m a nursing student with a dream of healing others. Now, I’m in the fight of my life to heal myself.
A few years ago, my world changed in an instant. A devastating car accident left me with severe injuries and the unimaginable loss of my left hand. As I lay in the hospital, processing the trauma and pain, I kept asking myself: How will I continue? How will I still become a nurse?
I ended up giving up on nursing school and instead chose to go with Public Health, something that was not aligning with what I wanted at heart, but here’s the truth—I refuse to give up. I am back at it again. I decided to give it another shot and reapplied to do nursing.
Why I’m Reaching Out
Losing a hand is life-altering. For anyone, yes—but especially for someone training to become a healthcare provider. The road ahead is long, filled with physical therapy, emotional healing, and the need for adaptive tools. Most crucial of all is a functional prosthetic hand—a bionic hand that can give me independence, restore my confidence, and allow me to continue pursuing my passion: caring for others. When I lost my hand, my self-confidence dropped to zero. I became shy and stopped going out to social activities like I used to. I know my confidence will be renewed if I get to have a prosthesis. My dream this year is to be fitted with a prosthesis. Unfortunately, prosthetics of this caliber cost thousands of dollars, and insurance often covers only a small portion or none at all and I don’t have one. That’s why I’m turning to you. I am turning to you to help me fundraise to get a prosthesis. Your support will go and help cover:
A state-of-the-art myoelectric prosthetic hand designed to mimic natural movement.
Occupational and physical therapy to retrain my body and mind.
Travel and fitting costs associated with prosthetic specialists.
Adaptive tools to help me thrive in nursing school and clinicals.
Why This Means Everything
Becoming a nurse was never just a career choice for me—it’s a calling. I’ve always believed in showing up for others during their most vulnerable moments. Now, I’m the one in need. But I don’t see this as the end—I see it as a new beginning.
Your support doesn’t just help me get a prosthetic—it gives me the power to write a new chapter. One where I graduate, walk across that stage with pride, and go on to help people heal… just as I’m healing now.
Help Me Reach This Goal by donating, any amount matters and if you can’t please share My story.
If you’ve ever believed in second chances, in resilience, or in the power of community, please consider sharing this.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart—for reading, for caring, and for believing in me.
With gratitude and hope,
Reena Cheruiyot
