This past Saturday our mom, Juli, experienced a medical emergency that changed her life overnight. She had collapsed while working a hospital shift at her travel assignment she had just started in Yuma. After suddenly fainting, she had a seizure-like episode, became disoriented, and was unable to recall conversation or speak clearly. She was surrounded by medical staff who’d noticed something wasn’t right, and quickly admitted her. After some tests and imaging, an MRI revealed that she had a moderate sized meningioma tumor in her brain. She was life flighted from her work, to Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix where she then underwent emergency brain surgery. After several hours of uncertainty, prayers and anticipation, we received great news that the tumor was successfully removed. However, the size it had grown to has caused a midline shift and substantial brain swelling. This has led to lingering neurological effects that will need intensive rehabilitation—including speech, behavioral, and physical therapy in the months ahead. She will be unable to work or even drive for at least several months and uncertain, but hopeful that she’ll be able to return back to bedside nursing.
Juli has always been the strongest person we know – the most selfless, single mother to her 4 children, a devoted emergency-care nurse of 30 years, loyal friend, and the rock of our family. She’s spent her whole adult life taking care of others. As her kids we want to be able to do everything we can to take care of her in this time. We’re asking for your help so she can focus on healing without the crushing weight of financial stress as she was between contracts with being a travel nurse, and her benefits and new health insurance had not yet taken effect when all of this happened. This left her without coverage in her emergency transport, surgery and hospitalization.
Your donation will go directly to medical costs, recovery and rehabilitation expenses, and helping our mom feel safe and supported during this time.
If you can’t donate, please share. And please keep our sweet mom’s healing in your prayers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
