Help Mike Browder Find His Voice Again
If you’re from around Shepherd, Texas, then chances are you know Mike Browder, or at least, you know his voice.
As the front man of the Still Broke Band, Mike’s been the soundtrack of good times and benefits across Southeast Texas for years. He’s the guy who could bring a crowd to life with nothing but a mic and a smile. He also poured his heart into writing and singing Christian music, with plans to record his own album before his life took a sudden turn. But earlier this year, Mike suffered a major stroke, and since then, his voice (and parts of the life he loved) have been taken from him.
The stroke left portions of the right side of his body paralyzed and caused devastating effects on his ability to speak and read. Doctors discovered 80% blockage in one side of his neck and 100% blockage on the other. While one surgery successfully removed the blockage, the stroke has still left him struggling daily.
He’s been working hard through therapy, but progress has been limited. Recently, his doctors shared some hope: a specialized treatment that could help restore the abilities the stroke took from him but it comes with a high cost.
The treatment is called a perispinal etanercept injection. It’s an innovative therapy that delivers medicine near the spine so it can quickly reach the brain and reduce inflammation that may be slowing recovery. Thousands of stroke survivors have seen real improvements, some within minutes. But the treatment isn’t covered by insurance, and just one dose costs $8,500. Most patients need two treatments, spaced a few weeks apart.
This campaign was created by Roy Goad, Mike’s longtime friend and bandmate, and the leader of Still Broke Band. Roy has been by Mike’s side since day one of his stroke journey, helping with daily tasks, and now leading this charge to get him the treatment he needs.
To receive the injections, Mike will also need to travel to Florida. Between the cost of two treatments and necessary travel expenses (gas, hotel, meals), we’re hoping to raise $20,000 to give him the best shot at reclaiming his voice…and his life.
Mike has stood up for others in this community time and time again. Playing benefit after benefit, lifting spirits through music, and being there when it counted. Now, it’s our turn to stand up for him.
If you can give, no amount is too small. And if you can’t donate right now, a share or a prayer means the world.
Let’s rally behind Mike like he’s rallied for so many of us, and help him sing again.
With love and thanks,
Roy Goad and the Still Broke Band Family
