On May 15th of this year, my father was on his way home from the store on his motorcycle when an unidentified motorist ran a stop sign, striking my father’s motorcycle and causing him to crash. The truck then left the scene, leaving my father with a spinal cord injury, unable to move on the side of the road. Luckily, there were other motorists that saw the incident and were able to call for help. He was airlifted to Parkview Regional Hospital, where he stayed in their ICU for 8 days before being moved into their inpatient rehabilitation facility, where he is currently working to regain strength and dexterity in his limbs. His quality of life will never be the same. He’s an avid golfer and motorcycle rider, and not only are those activities forever changed, but so too will be everyday tasks.
Because the driver has yet to be found, the max insurance has long ago been exceeded. Short-term disability will soon run out, and bills are growing. In this current state of uncertainty, the only thing we know for sure is that this is going to be expensive. Very expensive.
Anyone that knows my dad knows that he’s a man of simple tastes and lives well within his means. His only concern is how this is going to impact his way of life going forward. I would love for him to have some of that burden alleviated so that he can continue with the assistance he needs and he can focus on getting better.
