Hello everyone. My name is Gina and I am going to tell you about my son’s journey with central thrombocytopenia and secondary myeloid fibrosis. We actually had signs of the rare disorder when Jeffery was about six years old. He was in school and his teacher called me and asked me to bring him some clean clothes because he had scratched his hand and had gotten blood on his clothes. So I grabbed some shorts and shirt and headed to the school. Nothing could have prepared me for the way my son looked when I got there. He honestly looked as though he had committed a murder. His clothes were covered in blood. All from a scratch on his hand no bigger than a pin hole. So I had him change clothes while I called the dr. I got him an appointment and we went straight there. Dr said the he had scratched like the tip of a vein. I trusted my dr at that time so we left. Then shortly after that he had issues with bad pain in his legs. Doctor said that was growing pains. Ok no big deal. Next was the dentist. We had to make an appointment to have a few teeth pulled. So they sent us to children’s same day surgery. So we got there early in the morning and I was prepared for a long day. I brought enough money and snacks to get me through until we left. Only thing is we didn’t leave for a couple days. they wouldn’t let us leave because the one side of his mouth wouldn’t clot. It just kept bleeding and bleeding. 13 hours straight before they got it to stop. So because of this they got hematology involved. They ran test after test, and really couldn’t come up with anything. We were driving 45 min to an hour one way three times a week for blood work. They finally set him up for. Bone marrow aspiration. That’s when they figured out it was the central thrombocytopenia. Very rare in someone my sons age. So he has been on meds for that since he was 6. He has had numerous aspirations since then. He is now 27 yrs old with a fiancee and 2 beautiful girls. He has recently been diagnosed with secondary myeloid fibrosis. Aka bone marrow cancer. He needs a transplant. His insurance is fighting charges as quick as he has the treatments or appointments. He hasn’t worked in 3-4 months. He lives in Piqua Ohio and I live in lancaster South Carolina. I haven’t worked in a while either because I don’t have a car and can’t get a job close enough to walk or work. I need help getting to him and being able to maintain for 2-3 months. He won’t be able to be alone for a while. Alisha his fiancé is in school and needs to be able to finish so she can take care of her and his daughter if anything happens and he can’t work. My son really needs me and I need to be with him. Please help in any way you can even if it’s just passing this along. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Bless all of you!
