As Sonya’s cousin, I have witnessed her determination in reaching for her goals. These include spiritual goals by becoming a minister and missionary to everyone she encounters; educational goals by obtaining her Bachelor’s of Social Work and Master’s of Divinity degrees; and giving selflessly to her community as a Chaplain in many hospitals in the Indianapolis area. There is one additional goal that she has been working on, and that is improving her health. With this fundraiser, we can all celebrate with her as she crosses the finish line of her weight loss journey.
In Sonya’s own words:
“All my life I have been petite and very athletic. When I was in my 30s, my weight began to expand. My journey with weight loss has been going on for a long time. My weight has been fluctuating between 240, 198, and sometimes 170. This was very frustrating because I am 4’10″ and it is difficult to maneuver when you are overweight. I have tried dieting and exercising. My last hope was to have the lap band surgery in 2022, which helped with my appetite, and I have been working out in the mornings as well. I just recently had a consultation about having the fat cells and skin removed. I was not able to obtain the finances on my own for the surgery, and this is why I need your help. The surgery costs over $15,000.”
