Help Support Melissa in Her Fight Against Breast Cancer
This June, our family was devastated to learn that my sister, Melissa, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. This news comes just days after our mother completed her own treatment for breast cancer, making the timing especially heartbreaking.
Her first chemotherapy treatment begins on June 27 — a date that holds deep meaning. It will be exactly 31 years to the day since she received her very first chemo treatment at age 15, when she was courageously battling osteogenic sarcoma. This year was meant to mark 31 years cancer-free. Instead, she is preparing to fight all over again.
Melissa is a single mom to two beautiful children — Kendra (8) and Javier (almost 6, celebrating his birthday on July 2nd). They are her world, and she is doing everything she can to stay strong for them.
Her treatment plan includes six months of chemotherapy, followed by surgery and possibly radiation. This will be a long and difficult road — physically, emotionally, and financially.
This fundraiser is to help cover the costs of cancer care not fully covered by insurance, including:
Cold capping treatment — which gives her a better chance of keeping her hair during chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this is not covered by insurance and must be paid out of pocket.
Additional medical expenses — including co-pays, medications, deductibles, and supplies she’ll need throughout treatment and recovery.
Rent and household bills — as chemotherapy and its side effects will limit how much she can work over the coming months.
Any amount you can contribute — no matter how small — will help ease the weight of this journey. Your support means more than words can express, and will help give her the strength and stability she needs to focus on healing and being present for her children.
Thank you for standing with Melissa and our family during this incredibly difficult time.
