On April 24th, our lives changed when Randall went in for a routine colonoscopy and doctors discovered a tumor. Within just a few days, we received the devastating news that it was cancer—adenocarcinoma. What followed was a whirlwind of tests, including blood work, a CT scan, and an MRI. Based on those results, Randall was initially diagnosed with Stage 1 cancer.
On May 28th, Randall underwent surgery for a resection. The procedure, which was expected to take 4 hours, lasted 6. Due to the difficulty of the surgery a temporary ileostomy was placed. We were hopeful that could be reversed within a few weeks, but we had to wait for final pathology results.
Just a few days ago, we were hit with another blow: Randall’s cancer is actually Stage 3. This means he will now need to undergo chemotherapy and possibly radiation.
Randall is a dedicated deputy with the Sheriff’s Department. Unfortunately, he’s been unable to work since this all began, and at this point, we don’t know when he’ll be able to return.
We’ve been blessed by so many friends and family members providing support of all kinds. Our Haven Family will be holding a fundraiser at Haven Jiu Jitsu in Baldwinsville on July 12th at 10 AM, featuring an open mat and a silent auction. If you’re local, we would love to see you there.
Every donation, share, and kind word makes a difference. Thank you for standing with Randall as he begins this next phase of his fight.
