Running for Ellis & Supporting a Life with MND
Hi, my name is Waylon and in August I’ll be running the Sydney City2Surf and October I’ll be running the Melbourne Marathon, not just to cross a finish line, but to support someone who means the world to the woman I love.
Kate’s brother, Ellis, is 28 years old and has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) a cruel, progressive illness that takes away the ability to walk, speak, eat, and eventually breathe. There is no cure.
Tragically, this isn’t the first time the family has faced MND. Kate’s mum also battled MND, and now, years later, her dad Darren is facing the same heartbreaking journey again, this time with his son. He has retired to become Ellis’s full time carer, and the physical, emotional, and financial weight is immense.
What Your Donation Will Help With:
• Mobility equipment (wheelchairs, hoists, etc.)
• Accessibility upgrades to the home (bathroom mods, ramps, stair lifts)
• Comfort and physiotherapy equipment to improve Ellis’s daily quality of life
♂️ Why I’m Running
I’ve had my own challenges including spinal fusion surgery that once made me wonder if I’d ever run again, but no pain compares to what Ellis and his family are facing now.
Running this marathon is my way of doing what I can. Kate’s dad has already been through this journey once, and to see him carry that weight again is heartbreaking. It’s a toll that’s hard to describe physically, mentally, emotionally. I just want to help.
Every kilometre I run is for Ellis. Every drop of sweat is for a family who’s given everything. And every donation goes directly to easing their load.
How You Can Help
Whether it’s $5 or $50, every little bit counts. Your support will help Ellis live with dignity and comfort and give his dad the help he deserves after carrying so much, for so long.
If you can’t donate, even a share means the world.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Waylon
