Hi, my name is Christie Miller. I have started a fundraiser for Mark Beltran. He is a type 1 diabetic and is suffering from foot ulcers. He had an infection and went into the hospital on August 3. He had surgery on his foot. The surgeon left gauze in his foot and didn’t tell him. He tried to schedule a post-op appointment, but the surgeon didn’t take his insurance. He had to wait for it to be switched over. By that time, his foot became more infected. He went into the hospital again. He had another surgery, and the doctor cut his tendons. His toes stick straight up. He is unable to walk. He has to have at least 2 more surgeries. He is unable to work. During this time, he has become unsheltered. He has worked his entire life until the past 3 years. He was a caretaker for his mom, who had a stroke. If he doesn’t get some kind of help, he will have his leg amputated or worse. He is the kind of guy who will pull over without thinking about it to help a lady who looks like she is going to collapse. I have seen him do this in Glendora without hesitation. We were pulling into a 7/11 parking lot and saw the elderly lady struggling to walk. He stopped right where he was, jumped out, caught her before she hit the ground, and helped her to the fast food restaurant nearby. The workers were unsympathetic. They wouldn’t give her a cup of water. He bought her a drink and helped her call her husband. He waited with her until her husband arrived, all while I waited in his car. She had heat stroke. That is one memory. I have lots of them. Whether it be a stranger, friends, or family, he’s always there to help others in need. He is too proud to ask for help. That’s why I am trying to get him some help. If you can offer prayers or any donation, big or small, it is much appreciated.
