My name is Christy and I’m a friend and coworker of Michael and Krystle. On February 17, 2025 their baby Jonathan was born prematurely at 31 wks. He was 5lbs 3oz. Jonathan was born with two holes in his heart an ASD and a VSD. He was put on a bubble C-PAP machine to help him breathe. Whether he was forgetting to breathe Jonathan could not keep his oxygen regulated and his stats kept dropping. He spent his first two months in the Nicu at Silver Cross. His parents were told he would be in the nicu until he turned four months old for his surgery, but until then he had be watched closely and just grow. With all the x-rays, echocardiograms, and testing, Jonathan kept needing more and more help. Increasing diuretics, increasing pressures of the bubble C-PAP, and increasing his oxygen. With no surgical team for babies available a Silver, Jonathan had to be transported an hour away to Lurie Children’s Hospital. Once at Lurie’s, every time they try to lower his oxygen levels he struggled to breathe and his stats drop quickly. After only ten days there, Jonathan had his surgery done. He was a few days over two months old at that time. His surgery was a success. They closed the vsd and left a tiny pinhole in the asd for pressure reasons. After 79 days in the nicu/cicu, Jonathan has finally gotten to go home. He is still on a ng tube for feedings and oxygen since his lungs still need help and time for growth. Jonathan was also diagnosed with Down syndrome and has started speech, physical, and occupational therapies. We all know that healthcare even with insurance is very expensive. I’m setting this up so that some of the financial burden can hopefully alleviate some of the stress that Michael and Krystle have endured through this whole thing. They should be focused on spending time with their son and 6 other beautiful children rather than worrying about the expensive medical bills.
