Hi, my name is Nicole Flowers and I’m raising funds for my brave 2-year-old nephew, Brody, and his parents—my brother Jared Fountain and sister-in-law Amanda Waite—who are in the middle of a heartbreaking and overwhelming journey.
On May 15th, Brody had a seizure out of nowhere and was rushed to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. A CT scan revealed a large tumor in his skull, pressing into his brain and eye socket. Just days later, he underwent a 10-hour brain surgery to remove the mass, which was nearly a third the size of his brain.
While recovering, Brody developed a serious spinal fluid infection (pseudomonas). He had to go through another surgery to wash out the infection and have a subdural drain placed. Thankfully, doctors believe the infection was caught early, but he must now complete a full course of IV antibiotics—a minimum three-week hospital stay.
While managing the infection, doctors received preliminary results pointing to Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that typically starts in bone or soft tissue. In Brody’s case, it is affecting the skull, which is extremely uncommon—especially in a child this young. His care team is still waiting on final molecular confirmation, but they are confident in the diagnosis.
This week, a port was placed in preparation for chemotherapy. Once his antibiotic treatment is complete, Brody will begin chemo to continue fighting this cancer.

Jared and Amanda have not left Brody’s side. They’ve stepped away from work and are doing everything they can to keep him comfortable, safe, and loved through all of this. But the emotional and financial toll is enormous—and this journey is far from over.
