Hi, my name is Michelle Brown. We’ve recently learned that my brother, Charles, has been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) — a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer. With MDS, there are no stages — it’s either aggressive or non-aggressive, and in his case, it’s aggressive.
Right now, he’s undergoing frequent blood and platelet transfusions as doctors work to stabilize his blood counts. Chemo will be the next step, with the ultimate goal of a bone marrow transplant down the road. We’re still early in this process, but we’re staying hopeful and focused.
Because his immune system is so compromised — especially his white blood cell count — we kindly ask anyone wanting to visit to please wear a mask and refrain from visiting if you’re feeling sick. Even a small illness could be a big risk for him.
We’re incredibly grateful for the support, love, and prayers we’ve already received. They make a real difference. This journey is just beginning, and he needs to know he’s not alone in this. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
