My dad, Dennis Graves, has always been the heart of our family. Before dementia, he loved to dance, work on cars, go fishing, and take pride in caring for his lawn. He worked hard his whole life, providing for us and creating memories that shaped who we are. Watching dementia slowly take those memories from him has been incredibly difficult for all of us.
Recently, my mom had to retire early to care for Dennis full time. With both of them out of work, our family’s income has dropped significantly. The costs of medical care, daily assistance, and medication are overwhelming. On top of that, Dennis has recently started attending a day program for care, which is an added expense we weren’t prepared for.
