On June 11th, around 9:15 pm, 16-year-old Derek Welborn was struck by a car while crossing K-4. He suffered a fractured rib, collarbone, shoulder blade, vertebrae, a severe concussion, and a small aneurysm. His recovery will be long and painful — and unfortunately, the financial burden of his medical care is overwhelming.
Derek is one of the kindest, most soft-hearted people you’ll ever meet. He always puts others before himself and brings a quiet strength and warmth to everyone around him. He’s passionate, driven, and was just beginning to pour his heart into basketball — he had just gotten brand-new gear and was excited for what’s ahead.
Now, instead of focusing on the things a 16-year-old should — school, friends, and sports — Derek and our family are faced with surgeries, physical therapy, and hospital bills we simply can’t afford on our own.
If you’re able to donate, every dollar makes a difference. If you can’t, please share this post and keep Derek in your prayers. He deserves healing, not debt. Thank you for your love and support during this time.
