Matthew Bowden was a beloved father, chef, friend, and colleague whose sudden passing on July 19 has left behind his 8-year-old son and a family now facing an unimaginable road ahead. Matthew touched many lives personally and professionally during his 41 years. Many of us knew Matthew through the kitchens where we worked alongside him, including at Manresa in Los Gatos, Mentone in Aptos, and in Los Angeles, Rhode Island, and Sydney. Matthew embodied the standards of excellence that define great chefs, not for perfection’s sake, but because he cared deeply about his craft and the people around him. He pushed us to be better, held us accountable, and never accepted anything less than our best. Behind his tough exterior was someone who cared profoundly for his team, friends, and family. Those who worked beside him are better cooks and better people because of him.
With his family’s blessing, this fundraiser is organized to support Matthew’s son and family during this difficult time. Every dollar raised will go directly toward helping his son and family cover the loss of financial support and other expenses. Our hope is to ease some of the financial burden so his loved ones can focus on healing. No contribution is too small, and every act of kindness makes a difference. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page with your friends, family, and community. Your support means more than words can express. Thank you for honoring Matthew’s memory and for helping care for the family he loved so much.
