My mom has always been the heart of our family, but this past year has brought unimaginable challenges. We recently lost my dad to liver cancer after a sudden two-week hospitalization. The loss was devastating, and it happened so quickly that none of us were prepared. While we were still trying to process our grief, my mom’s car broke down and needed major repairs—an expense that came out of nowhere and added to the stress.
As if that wasn’t enough, my mom is also battling bone cancer herself. The treatments and doctor visits are not only physically and emotionally exhausting, but they also come with mounting medical bills. With the loss of my dad’s social security check, my mom is struggling to keep up with living expenses and monthly payments. The credit card debt from the car repairs has only made things harder, and it’s been overwhelming trying to manage everything on her own.
