As many of you know, our sister Syd has been dealing with chronic illness for 14 years. As of the last nine months, her body started to reject her medications. Her doctors at UCSF have been working diligently to find a new plan, but it has been a rough road of trial and error.
The first new medication failed, which resulted in two separate hospitalizations to get her diseases under control. On Monday, June 16th she went in to start the newest infusion as the next medication to try.
An hour into the infusion she had a life threatening reaction, and had to be rushed to the hospital where she stayed for another four days.
While she isn’t able to work during these hospitalizations (and we are unsure how many more there will be down the road), her medical bills are rapidly accumulating.
Her medical team is in the process of submitting approval for the next medication to try, and we are hopeful it will be the answer we’ve been waiting for. However, the process for insurance approvals for higher risk meds can be long and tedious, so we don’t yet have any idea of when or if this next step will be available to her, or if it will even work once approved. Our goal right now is to just help keep her financially afloat through all of this uncertainty and added stress.
It can be difficult to ask for help, but if you know Syd, you know she’s always fought every health obstacle along the way and has done so with a smile on her face and a quick witted joke.
We understand this is a tough time in general for many, so whether you can donate or share, we really appreciate it. Thank you for your consideration.
Much love,
Syd’s Sisters, Jordan and Abby
