Tyler’s Walk in Faith: Overcoming Severe Trauma

Tyler was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in the early morning hours as he was on the way to work. He has suffered an extensive amount of injuries, including skull fractures, multiple brain bleeds, several fractures in his face, a broken arm, and broken ribs.

He has undergone multiple surgeries on his arm and face and will have many more in the near future. In addition to the rods and screws in his arm, his facial injuries required a complex surgery in which seven different plates were used to completely reconstruct his face and structure. However, in the process, they had to remove multiple teeth and he has had several nerve pathways compromised, resulting in loss of sensation and muscle responsiveness.

Beyond the visible injuries, Tyler has suffered a severe traumatic brain injury to the parietal lobe of his brain, which plays an important role in processing and combining sensory information. It also helps us understand where things are in space to orient ourselves and the objects around us, and plan and coordinate complex movements. Therefore, damage to the parietal lobe can result in difficulties in abilities that involve coordination between eyes and hands (e.g., writing, distinguishing left from right), difficulties in well-learned movements (e.g., using a toothbrush, buttoning a shirt), changes in sense of touch, and perception difficulties (e.g., difficulty locating objects in the field of vision, difficulties seeing how objects fit in a setting).

Tyler’s quality of life hangs in the balance, and we are far from being out of the woods. His road to recovery is going to be very long and difficult; it is going to require extensive rehabilitation. While our main focus is his recovery, looming in the background is the growing mound of medical bills, coupled with his complete loss of income as he will be out of work for the unforeseen future.

Please, if you feel drawn and can in any way help to ease the financial and mental burden that has come our way, we would be beyond grateful. No amount is too small, and for every contribution, we are beyond thankful.

And if you’re unable to contribute financially, if you could please just keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this tragic circumstance we, as a family, have found ourselves in.

Tranding Fundraisers

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
