I’m a veteran of the tech industry. 18 years and I was laid off in January. For the first time in nearly two decades I have no way to support myself or my family. I’m middle aged, which hurts me and I’m white. Almost every interview or hiring manager is with someone from India. While I can’t prove it, we all know people hire people they can relate to. I was specifically told by one interviewer they hired someone else because that person could speak Hindi and would be better able to communicate with employees off-shore.
My wife needs lung and heart medical care but we don’t have insurance. I’ve been driving for Uber but it’s not nearly enough to cover the bills. Soon we’re going to lose the car because we’re behind on payments. My credit is completely destroyed. I’m only on here because even if I were to get a job offer tomorrow it would be a month before I brought any money in.
