Urgent Help for Shelly and Carlton

Hi, I’m Dai. I’m Shelly’s best friend. She is attempting to raise funds to cover urgent medical and living expenses for her husband, Carlton’s cancer treatment — and to try and hold together the life they’re still fighting for.

What’s Happening

Her husband is battling metastatic (stage 4) prostate cancer. In July, he must return to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to resume critical care that had to be postponed in May due to financial strain.

He also needs:

Cardiologist testing (postponed since March)

Rheumatoid arthritis treatment (on hold until cancer is addressed)

6 days of hotel accommodations, meals, and daily transportation to appointments

Medical co-pays not covered by the foundation

The Rotary Foundation generously covered part of their hotel stay. But the rest — they must pay out of pocket for. They need $5,000 minimum for this trip.

‍♀️ The reason for me creating this fundraiser campaign is because Shelly isn’t well enough to do it.

While fighting for his life, Shelly has been fighting for hers as well:

She’s been living with severe anemia, lipolymphedema, and debilitating pain — which has been left untreated without needed resources

She’s been trying to launch a business so she is not stuck in survival mode indefinitely

She’s been holding down a household with no working laundry, dangerously crumbling stairs, and having to try and navigate around/move necessary medical machines; placing her in harms way repeatedly

She has also been caring for extended family needs while trying very hard to stay strong in faith and love

While Shelly is still walking, still showing up, still doing the impossible every day — they both desperately need help. And I’m asking for it on their behalf.

What Your Gift Will Support

✔ Lyft rides, meals, hotel gap nights for July

✔ Co-pays for cancer and cardiology appointments

✔ Car insurance, gas, and repairs to stay mobile

✔ Shelly’s much-needed medical devices and recovery tools

✔ A safe space to attempt to generate income again — not just survive

️ Why It Matters

Shelly’s husband worked until he was 74, even through unthinkable pain and the loss of his youngest son. Shelly had a small business online, but Carlton’s income was primary. Shelly has been devoting all her time to care for him, despite her own failing health and now needs help to stay standing.

Shelly has been my best friend for over 20 years. I have witnessed both she and her husband, Carlton, be generous to many family and friends over that time and have asked for nothing in return. Now they are the ones in need. If you can give $10, $50, $100 or more, it goes directly to both their care and stability. It would mean very much to all to please consider sharing this campaign. Every little bit helps.

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
