Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
My mother was diagnosed with Lupus about 2 years ago. Within the past year her condition has gotten severe fairly quickly. She not only has Lupus but she also Fibromyalgia, Psoriatic Arthritis, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, Spinal Stenosis, COPD, Chronic Migraines, and Ulcer Pylar. The most recent diagnoses added to this list in Grade 3 Fatty Liver Disease, Hardening of the Liver often called Cirrhosis, as well as multiple larger gallstones. We are currently waiting for the results from the two most recent MRIs to be able to get a clear understanding of the severity of this condition.
My mother does not have health insurance at the moment. She lost her job at Badcock and More when the company went out of business at the end of October. For her to get private insurance it would cost her almost $800 a month and still I would have to come out of pocket for medical expenses. We have tried to get her Medicare/Medicaid but she does not qualify due to her age (55). Due to her medical conditions she is unable to work. My 5 year old child and I moved in with my mother back June 2024 so I can take care of her and support her. Which I have been managing to cover all her medical cost and our living costs. She has filed for disability but that is a very long process that we are still waiting on. However, with her new diagnoses she needs a third specialized MRI, 2-3 biopsies, more blood work, her gallbladder removed (possibly just waiting on the results from the recent MRIs to confirm), and more. Which without medical insurance are going to cost thousands of dollars and this will only be the start.
If you know me personally then you know that it pains me to ask for help but I am running out of options. Her doctors are currently focusing all their efforts and attention on her liver because of the severity of it’s condition it poses the greatest threat to her life. Unfortunately they won’t know how to properly treat and diagnose without the biopsies and the specialized MRI. I am doing everything I can to continue coming up with the money to cover these cost. I am working 30-35hrs at my job and picking up shifts when I can. As well as picking up odd jobs on my days off to make extra money when the opportunity arises.
What we have been told for the newest diagnoses is that there is no cure and that all they can hope to do now is treatments to try and slow the process. All I want is to give my mother the best chance at living as long as her body will allow and the only way I can do that is with these procedures and the treatments the doctors can provide based on results they obtain from the three MRIs and the biopsies.
Again, I appreciate you taking the time to read my story. If you are unable to donate please consider sharing in hopes that this reaches enough people that can donate. Shares help just as much as donations. Thank you!
